Congratulations, Eugene Friesen, Senior Product Specialist!
So who is Eugene?
Describe your role at Deacom?
I work as a Senior Product Specialist, helping customers who are implementing DEACOM get up to speed. My job is to learn how a customer’s business works, and then help them make it work better using our tools.
This isn’t just a customer-facing job, though: internally, I help new colleagues learn the process manufacturing industry and how DEACOM supports it.
When and how did you come to work at Deacom?
I started at Deacom in October 2017. Before that I had a similar implementation and consulting role for another ERP in the Philadelphia area, which I’d joined after being a customer of theirs for several years. My first ERP implementation was back in 2007 at a manufacturer in Texas, and I still love doing this work.
What do you enjoy most about working at Deacom? Why?
I enjoy the entire implementation process: learning the story behind a customer’s product, getting to know how their team works together, and then helping their processes improve as they use DEACOM. But that’s only possible because of the quality of the team I work with. Deacom is a collection of incredibly bright people who are also genuinely helpful and pleasant to work with. I’m grateful to call many of them friends.
Tell me about your favorite project at Deacom thus far? Why does this one stand out?
My current project is almost always my favorite, but that’s especially true right now! I’ve moved to Frankfurt to work at Deacom Europe, where I’m helping to train and staff up the new office and support the first several implementation projects in Europe.
What excites you most about the technology industry?
You know how the right tool makes a job so much easier? We’re in the business of building better tools for manufacturing companies and helping people work smarter with them. I love seeing the difference our tools and training make in our customers’ day-to-day jobs.
What do you like to do when you’re not at the office?
I love being a tourist in my own city: wandering or biking around, choosing the side streets, and generally trying to notice the parts that get ignored when we’re just trying to get from place to place. This is especially enjoyable with COVID limiting travel further afield. I’m excited about visiting all around Europe as things open back up this year though!
Around home I like to tinker on things: my bike, various electronics projects, and cooking are the most common things you’ll find me nerding out on.
What is something that people would be surprised to learn about you?
For all the fun and adventuring I like to do, I don’t know how to swim underwater.
If you are holding or wearing anything specific for your bobblehead, can you explain what it means to you?
As anyone who’s seen my cubicle can tell you, photography is one of my favorite hobbies. I take most of my pictures with the iPhone that’s always in my pocket, but I still love using a purpose-built camera whenever I can.
